PJ Comedy Fest 2026 Set to Bring Five Days of Laughs, Food & Entertainment to Petaling Jaya This July

Petaling Jaya is about to get a whole lot funnier.

From 29 July to 2 August 2026, The Square at Jaya One will take centre stage as the home of PJ Comedy Fest 2026, a five-day, multi-language comedy festival bringing together some of Malaysia's biggest comedy names alongside the country's next generation of performers.

More than just a packed line-up of laughs, the inaugural festival signals the beginning of a new era for one of Petaling Jaya's most familiar live entertainment venues.

A new beginning for a familiar creative hub

Long before comedy festivals became a fixture of the local entertainment calendar, the performance space at The Square, Jaya One had already earned its reputation as a gathering place for artists, performers and audiences.

Since 2009, the venue has hosted everything from theatre productions and stand-up showcases to cultural performances and community events. Over the years, comedy heavyweights including Harith Iskander, Joanne Kam, Douglas Lim and Kavin Jay have graced its stage, helping to cement its status as one of the Klang Valley's key live entertainment destinations.

Following the challenges of the pandemic years, the venue is now entering its next phase under DeStage, which has taken over stewardship of the space with plans to reinvigorate it through year-round programming spanning comedy, theatre, music and community arts.

The refreshed venue also features upgraded facilities, including a new LED stage backdrop designed to elevate the audience experience.

Five days of comedy across four languages

As the first major showcase under DeStage's management, PJ Comedy Fest 2026 reflects Malaysia's multicultural identity by featuring performances in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil.

Across five days, audiences can expect a diverse mix of stand-up comedy, improv, storytelling performances and interactive productions spread across the venue's Studio and Main Theatre Hall spaces.

In total, the festival will feature 29 comedians and 11 young performers across nine productions, making it one of the largest comedy gatherings in Petaling Jaya this year.

One of the biggest draws of the festival is the highly anticipated Comedy Gala, featuring a line-up that reads like a who's who of Malaysian comedy.

Beyond the gala, festival-goers can catch performances from established names such as Kuah Jenhan, Farid Azmeir, K-Shao, Jasmine Rajah, Brian Tan, Prakash Daniel and Keren Bala Devan, alongside crowd-favourite improv troupe Pinball Monkeys.

Rounding out the programme is a family-friendly production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream by EM Drama, giving the festival a broader theatrical dimension and ensuring there is something for audiences of all ages.

Beyond the stage

While comedy is undoubtedly the main attraction, organisers are positioning PJ Comedy Fest as part of a wider lifestyle experience at The Square.

Leading that effort is Rockafellers, which has become the venue's entertainment and F&B anchor. Throughout the festival period, visitors can enjoy themed nights, happy hour promotions, music bingo sessions, ladies' nights and free-flow cocktail experiences.

Festival ticket holders will also receive 15% off à la carte food items at Rockafellers, making it easy to turn a comedy night into a full evening out.
