Two years ago, HRH Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah of Brunei stole the spotlight and hearts of Malaysian girls at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

He went up against our former Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, in the equestrian polo event.

Now that the SEA Games is back once again, all eyes will definitely be on Prince Mateen, especially after he took part in the equestrian polo event on Monday (2 December).

Team Brunei, led by Prince Mateen, eventually took home the bronze medal after beating out Indonesia with a 5-4 score.

What a tournament, what a team ✊? bittersweet bronze ???

The handsome son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah shared on his Instagram, @tmski, photos of him during the tournament and the prize giving ceremony with the caption: “What a tournament, what a team. Bittersweet bronze”.

Netizens left congratulatory messages on the post, and we can’t help but laugh at some of the comments left by his fans.

“Congratulations sayang” said an Instagram user.

“Congratulations Prince @tmski It is an honor that ya'all played here in the Philippines. I wish to see you in one of your games soon. Please wait for me until that day comes,” commented @bhemgorg.

The Prince and Sultan of Brunei.
“You'll always be the winner for me my King. Hoping to see you one day,” said another user.

But the most hilarious comment has got to be “Mateen ayok kerumah aku, mamaku pengen mantu kayak kamu katanya” (Mateen please come to my house, my mom wants to make you her son-in-law she said).

Prince Mateen may have stolen their hearts, but #TeamMalaysia has been busy climbing their way to the top of the rankings. In fact, we took home the gold medal after beating the Philippines in the same event!

Malaysia retained its title as the equestrian polo champions after previously winning gold at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games too.

Congratulations, Team Malaysia!
