TLDR

  • Astro will not be broadcasting the FIFA World Cup 2026, meaning Malaysian football fans can watch the tournament through other platforms such as MyTV, RTMKlik, and the MyGOV Malaysia app.
  • Unifi TV is offering daily and full-season passes for live World Cup access, with prices ranging from RM20 to RM60, including discounts for existing subscribers.
  • The FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on 12 June with the group stage matches, and fans can follow official updates through FIFA’s social media channels.

The World Cup isn’t just a football tournament, it’s a global event that somehow has the power to bring people together.

However, ahead of the 2026 edition, many Malaysian football fans were surprised to learn that Astro, long regarded as the country’s go-to broadcaster for major football tournaments, will not be airing the World Cup this time around.

With the tournament fast approaching, Malaysians are already looking forward to a month of thrilling games, dramatic upsets, and unforgettable moments. If you’re wondering where you can catch all the action, here’s a guide to the various platforms and channels that will be broadcasting the tournament.

1. MyTV

MyTV is Malaysia’s free digital terrestrial television (DTT) broadcasting service. For those who own newer televisions, or Integrated Digital TVs (IDTVs), all you have to do is connect a UHF antenna directly to your TV to access the service.

On the other hand, those using older analogue televisions will need to take an extra step before accessing MyTV. You will need to purchase a certified DVB-T2 decoder, commonly known as a MyTV box.

Once the channels are scanned, you will be able to access free-to-air stations such as RTM’s TV1, TV2, TV Okey, RTM Sports, and Berita RTM, where World Cup matches are expected to be broadcast.

2. RTMKlik

One of the many applications you can use to watch the upcoming World Cup matches, RTMKlik is expected to stream all 104 World Cup matches live.

The free application can be downloaded on smartphones and Android TVs. Viewers can access the service using any internet provider.

3. MyGOV Malaysia

While this free application offers multiple services from 19 government agencies, including travel restriction checks and searches for unclaimed money, it was recently announced that the MyGOV Malaysia app will also allow Malaysians to watch upcoming World Cup matches.

However, do note that you will need a MyDigital ID to access RTM’s live World Cup broadcasts through the app’s streaming features.

4. Unifi TV

In a statement, Unifi TV announced that it will offer access to the FIFA World Cup 2026 to both Unifi TV subscribers and non-subscribers.

Fans can choose a daily pass priced at RM20. Do note that this option will only be available from 12 June 2026 onward. Additionally, there is also a full-season pass priced at RM60.

Meanwhile, existing Unifi TV customers can enjoy an exclusive discounted rate of RM50 for the full-season pass. New customers can also qualify for this special rate by subscribing to a Unifi TV pack starting from RM12 per month.

5. YouTube

Although YouTube is an easy option for catching the game, Malaysians are unlikely to be able to watch live match streams there, as broadcasting rights have only been granted in selected regions.

However, viewers can still watch match highlights and updates through FIFA’s official YouTube channel.
