(REVIEW) Where Comfort Meets Style: We Tried the New Adidas Ultraboost 5
Although I’m not much of a runner, I’ve always been intrigued by how putting on great running shoes can help you run more efficiently and feel faster. Hence, I was overjoyed when Adidas kindly sent us a pair of their Ultraboost 5 for me to try on.
Despite not being much of a runner and not someone who typically invests in a good pair of running shoes, having used the Ultraboost 5 for a week, I’m now convinced that a great pair of running shoes that not only feels good but looks good as well is a worthy investment for any runner out there.
Run with style
The Ultraboost 5 comes in a whopping eight colourways, including:
- Cloud White / Glory Grey / Lucid Pink
- Spark / Halo Silver / Lucid Lemon
- Core Black / Core Black / Core Black
- Cloud White / Cloud White / Crystal White
- Core Black / Cloud White / Off White
- Carbon / Iron Metallic / Lucid Blue
- Cloud White / Dark Blue / Lucid Blue
- Crew Orange / Bright Royal / Semi Flash Aqua
I was given the Ultraboost 5 in Cloud White / Glory Grey / Lucid Pink, which looks fantastic and is not your typical brightly coloured running shoe. Although I’m personally not a fan of white shoes, the grey and pink accents on the soles helped the shoe pop out while still looking neat and minimalist.

Design-wise, the Adidas Ultraboost 5 is said to be the most significant update since the franchise was created in 2015 and features:

- Adidas’ primeknit upper, which is said to enhance both fit and breathability,
- Molded external heel support to optimise your feet with some support,
- Re-engineered light boost midsole, which is packed with more foam to provide more cushioning,
- Adidas’ Torsion System technology, as well as
- Continental outsoles to help you control your strides better.

On the go
While I’m not much of a runner, having tried the shoes on several activities such as runs, walks and jogs, I can see why Adidas’ Ultraboosts are renowned for their comfort and lightness.
The Ultraboost 5 offers a comfortable and bouncy running experience, ideal for recreational runners who want a comfortable running shoe that also looks great on the feet.
The re-engineered light boost midsole and torsion system give the shoe plenty of bounce while offering higher responsiveness and cushioning in the heel and in transition. In transition, the shoe instantly bounces back to its original shape as a runner’s foot hits the ground, allowing you to go further while expending the same amount of energy.

Meanwhile, the new adaptive Primeknit upper ensures that the shoes are adaptable, flexible, and genuinely breathable. This keeps the foot cool each step of the way, which is essential in Malaysia’s hot and humid climate.
Additionally, the molded external heel support works perfectly to optimise your feet with some support and ensure that your feet are locked in for the ride. This is one of my favourite features of the Ultraboost 5; as with running shoes, I usually face issues with shoes with heels that do not lock in my feet properly or clamp onto my heels too tightly.
Lightweight fit
I got the Ultraboost 5 in a UK 11.5, my standard size. Although I sometimes prefer to go up half a size for sports shoes, I found that this wasn’t necessary with these shoes, as they fit perfectly. However, as with sports shoes, it’s always best to try them on in person before making your purchase.
Although the shoe feels solid and steady, it’s impressive that it is pretty light, at 292 g for a UK 8.5 size. Its compactness and lightness make it a perfect companion for when you have to travel out of town.

Our verdict
Overall, I loved my experience with the Ultraboost 5, which finally showed me the value of owning a good pair of running shoes. While running shoes often look dull or way too vibrant, the Ultraboost 5 threads the line perfectly. It is a comfortable shoe ideal for casual runs and walks while also keep you looking extremely dapper.
The Adidas Ultraboost 5 is available for RM749 at select retail stores or the official website. Additionally, adiClub members who purchase a pair of Ultraboost 5 can redeem a complimentary Boost Kit for a limited time only while stocks last, so get your hands on them as soon as you can!
