Known as Port Makanan RM3, the stall has been serving affordable meals at the same RM3 price point for the past year. This month, it is set to celebrate its first anniversary.

According to its operator, Hazman Tarmizi, the stall began as a modest setup, with vendors selling local kuih from just three tables. Over time, however, it evolved into something much bigger which is a platform that helps housewives and single mothers earn an income by preparing and selling food.

More than just RM3 meals

Speaking to Harian Metro, Hazman said the stall's offerings have expanded well beyond traditional kuih.

Today, customers can find a variety of dishes, including rice meals, side dishes, soups, porridge and desserts, most of which are prepared by local residents.

What makes Port Makanan RM3 even more appealing is its ever-changing menu. Rather than sticking to a fixed selection of dishes, the stall offers different food items daily, giving customers something new to look forward to on every visit without stretching their budgets.

Everything is usually sold out by 2 PM

Hazman explained that the RM3 pricing was introduced to help nearby residents, particularly those from lower-income households and those who are unemployed.

The stall operates daily from 11 AM to 6 PM, but demand is so strong that most of its food is typically sold out by 2 PM.

In addition to serving walk-in customers, Port Makanan RM3 also receives bulk orders from nearby factories and fulfils orders through food delivery platforms, allowing it to reach an even wider customer base.

What started as a small business with just a handful of tables has since grown into a community-driven initiative, proving that affordable food and meaningful social impact can go hand in hand.
