This RM950 Bukit Bintang Room Looks More Like a Bathroom Than a Bedroom

Living close to the city centre comes with plenty of perks, but finding an affordable rental is easier said than done. Maybe the room is smaller than you'd like, the building is older, or the monthly rent stretches your budget a little more than expected.

Recently, a room listing in Kuala Lumpur left many Malaysians scratching their heads, not because of its monthly rent, but because of its rather unusual interior design.

In a post on Threads, a woman shared that she was browsing a website for a room to rent when she came across a listing in Bukit Bintang that left her flabbergasted.

"I was looking for a room for rent and came across this. How could you turn a toilet into a room to rent out?" she wrote in the caption.

The photo attached to the post showed a mattress placed inside a tiled room that closely resembled a bathroom. The room also featured a sink, a mirror, and what appeared to be a bathtub fixture beneath the mattress.

The listing was described as a 'medium room', with its description stating that another bed could be added if an additional tenant was renting the space.

The listing also included amenities such as parking, security, a lift, a swimming pool, a playground, a gymnasium, a clubhouse, and more. It also showed a rental deposit of RM1,000.

However, as of this writing, the listing has since been removed from the website.

Netizens were shocked

The post soon gained attention from other social media users. Many compared the listing to the home featured in the Oscar-winning 2019 South Korean film Parasite, while others were shocked by the hefty rental price.

Meanwhile, another user shared her own experience searching for a room to rent.

They shared, "Yes, this kind of listing does exist. Last time, I was searching for a room to rent in the Bandar Utama area. The price I was quoted was RM400 to RM600 for a room in a landed house. It was obviously a bathroom." 

"I was even considering it at the time because it was so hard to find a non-sharing room at that price. But in the end, I had to cancel because I was scared and disgusted. I found a better option in Damansara. The rent may have been an extra RM200, but it's better to pay more and get a better room."
