We have to hand it to Microsoft’s hardware division – their products are just plain gorgeous. The latest addition? A full on laptop called the ‘Surface Laptop’.

Unlike previous Surface Pro devices, this one isn’t a 2-in-1 half tablet – it’s a full-featured computer with a touchscreen.

But what really impresses is the build quality. Early reviews seem to indicate it feels as premium as it looks and we’re thoroughly convinced.

But here are six specific things that we’re really looking forward to.

1. Alcantara on a Laptop?!

The interior is wrapped in suede.

For those unfamiliar with the material, Alcantara is a man-made suede that was specially designed to be used in the automotive industry. It’s expensive, durable and very, very beautiful. Microsoft’s decision to use it on the Surface laptop is absolutely brilliant. We can’t wait to experience how it feels as wrist support!

2. It gives you value for your money

With the price of one 15

The tech specs on the new Surface laptop aren’t mind blowing, but they’re certainly adequate. Put it up against the competing Apple Macbook Air, and the Surface is far and away the winner. It’s got the latest 7th generation Core i5 and i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of ultrafast storage. Like we said, nothing ground-breaking but certainly bang for buck considering a base model with decent specs comes in at less than US$1,000 (around RM4,320). And this is a premium laptop we’re talking about here!

3. It has touchscreen

Scroll with your finger
Your phone has one. Your tablet has one. Your e-reader has one. Your car probably has one too. You may not need one on your laptop, but hey, if you need it, this laptop has a 10-point multi touch display. Plus, you get full compatibility with the Windows Surface Pen.

4. Its Pixelsense Display is simply gorgeous

Retina who?
While we’re on the topic, that screen is pretty amazing. It’s 2256 x 1504 resolution hovers around the QHD mark, which is definitely the sweetspot between gorgeous and battery-draining.

5. A brand new operating system that extends battery life

Surf the web the whole night on one full charge.
Now, this is new. Microsoft has introduced a ‘light’ version of Windows 10 and the Surface Laptop will be among the first few to have it pre-installed. So what’s the biggest difference with Windows 10 S? It can only run Windows Apps. Don’t worry, most of the essentials are present in ‘App’ form. With Windows 10 S, power is sipped. Microsoft claims 14.5 hours of video playback on one full charge. Take that in.

6. You have four nice colours to choose from

Colour us impressed.
The age of the boring laptop is pretty much over. Microsoft have made sure of that. The Surface Laptop will be available in four exciting colours – Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue, and Graphite Gold.
