Step Aside Barbie, Ken Is Set To Get A Makeover Featuring 15 New Looks

Last year, Mattel announced one of Barbie’s greatest evolutions in its entire existence – the expansion of their dolls in several body shapes, skin tones, eye colours, and hair styles.

The news of the diversified range of Barbie dolls was well received by Barbie fans around the world. Many applauded their effort in highlighting the importance of diversity in culture as well as inclusiveness.

Now, it seems that Barbie’s boyfriend Ken will also get his very own dream makeover as well.

Mattel announced that they will be expanding the Ken doll line by introducing 15 new dolls featuring three new body sizes – slim, broad, and original; seven new skin tones, eight hair colours, and nine hairstyles.

Interestingly, Mattel seems to be keeping up with the trends by including a man bun hairstyle, which was only made popular in recent years.

"We are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation,” Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager for Barbie, said in a statement.

The new range of Ken dolls are expected to be available in stores by the end of the year.
