When you're on a holiday, it's only natural to book a hotel room with a view of the sea or the mountains.

This one woman, however, got a room with the most absurd view ever.

Not what she had in mind

Just like all of us, all Desiree Baker wanted was a nice, relaxing 'me time' in a hotel with a great view.

Anticipating the best experience, she booked a room at Cassa, a hotel near the famed New York Times Square, via the Airbnb app.

According to the Daily Mail UK, the hotel promises a room that overlooks the Manhattan skyline. In fact, photos on the website showed a room with a gorgeous view out over the city.

Baker said in a video that she believed she found a great place to stay, and for the amount she paid for the room, she thought it was a bargain.

Sounds and looks pretty legit, right?

Well, it wasn't until the next morning that she realised she had been duped: instead of the gorgeous Manhattan skyline she was promised, the room's only window opens up into Tempura, the hotel restaurant - with the closest table less than a foot away!

"It's a good location I thought, perfect, this is a perfect place to stay. When we got here it was dark and we just went to bed.

"When we woke up there were blackout shades but I was so excited to see the view. I thought I was going to see a building, a skyline or whatever.

"I roll up the shades... and we are in a restaurant. We are fully in a restaurant. I can open up this window and fully join these people at their dinner, at their lunch," Baker said in the video.

Baker then uploaded another video onto her TikTok account, showing her opening the window into the restaurant.

HOW IS THIS LEGAL you literally can not make this up. I can open the window and touch their table

She posted another video of her raising the blind to reveal a couple enjoying dinner at the nearest table.

"HOW IS THIS LEGAL you literally [cannot] make this up. I can open the window and touch their table," Baker wrote in the video.

Baker even went to the restaurant to check it out and shockingly, she found that the windows were made of one-way glass - which means that the diners at the restaurant can't look into her room but Baker can just stare at them all day long without them knowing about it.

That's actually quite disturbing, right?

Airbnb host responds

After her less-than-satisfying stay at the room, Baker got in touch with the Airbnb booking host to ask for a refund.

She shared a screenshot of an alleged exchange with the Airbnb booking host.

“Apologies for taking some time to reply to you, actually we were going to cancel your reservation as we had some room issues, however we were able to manage to host you.

"I believe everything went and is going well during your stay and glad to know that we were able to host you during this time of year,” the host said in a reply.

Thankfully for her, her conversation with an Airbnb representative was a little bit more pleasant, as they have promised to follow up with the host regarding her experience.

Well, we guess this is one hotel stay that Desiree Baker will not soon forget.
