We Spoke to a Feng Shui Master on How to Set Up Your Home (and Your Life) for 2026

Fengft

TLDR

  • Master Suyen Lim explains feng shui as the study of energy flow in spaces, emphasizing its basis in environment and timing rather than religion or superstition.
  • To create good feng shui at home and work, keep spaces clean and clutter-free, avoid sharp corners and obstructed entrances, and position furniture to support energy flow and mental clarity.
  • For 2026, the energy is fast and intense, so Malaysians are advised to stay calm, focus on personal goals, and be mindful of the East, Southeast, and South sectors in their homes for better opportunities and stability.

For many Malaysians, the start of the year comes with familiar rituals — spring cleaning, rearranging furniture and the annual rush to “refresh” the home before Chinese New Year.

But while feng shui is often lumped together with superstition or tradition, Master Suyen Lim, founder of Supreme Divinity which specialises in Chinese metaphysics, says it is neither religious nor mystical. In her words, it is simply “energy science.”

Sitting down with Rojak Daily, she breaks down what feng shui really means, how energy in 2026 behaves, and what Malaysians can do to set up their homes and workspaces for clarity, calm and better opportunities this year.

What Feng Shui actually means

Feng shui is commonly translated as wind (feng) and water (shui). According to Master Suyen, wind represents moving energy, the feeling you get when a breeze passes by, while water is what stops or gathers that energy.

“When the wind flows, it carries energy. When it meets water, the flow stops, and that is when we can collect or use it,” she says. In modern terms, she describes feng shui simply as the study of energy, magnetic fields and the way they move through space.

Crucially, she clarifies that feng shui has no ties to religion. “Rituals, chanting, ceremonies, those belong to religion. Feng shui is about environment, comfort, positioning, timing and how you align yourself with the energy of a space,” she explains.

Feng Shui works on three levels

Master Suyen explains that feng shui operates in three distinct layers.
The first is long-term feng shui, which is fixed. Once the structural energy of a place is set, it doesn’t change.

The second is personalised feng shui, because different people react differently to the same environment based on their own energy profiles.

The third is time-based feng shui. Energy reshuffles every year and every cycle, which creates short-term effects. Each year carries different influences, challenges or opportunities, and the environment shifts accordingly.

“All three must be considered together,” she says. “Feng shui is about alignment, aligning yourself with the space and time to support your goals.”

How to create good Feng Shui at home

Before diving into technical formulas, Master Suyen insists that the basics matter most. A clean house allows energy to flow, while clutter blocks it. The entrance should never be obstructed by boxes, bicycles or the familiar mountain of shoes that many Malaysian homes accumulate. This is the main pathway through which good energy enters the house, and blocking it is like closing the door on opportunity.

She also advises Malaysians to avoid sleeping or sitting beneath beams or pointed ceiling fixtures, and to avoid positioning themselves in the path of sharp corners. Sharpened angles disrupt the flow of energy and cause it to “bounce” back toward the body, creating stress, emotional irritation and even physical discomfort depending on where it hits.

Lighting matters too. For study or work, bright yang energy supports clarity. For sleep, warm and gentle yin lighting helps calm the mind. “Adjust your light to your activity, and it will influence your mood in a good way,” she says.

She also stresses the importance of keeping the centre of the home empty and unblocked. Heavy cabinets, storages or clutter should never occupy this “core” space. She compares it to a full stomach, when overfilled, it becomes sluggish and heavy, and energy slows down.

“A clear centre point allows energy to flow through the entire home,” she says.

Feng Shui for workspaces

Workspace energy affects productivity and mental clarity. According to Master Suyen, one should never sit facing a wall, as it blocks creative thinking and stops ideas from flowing. It is better to face open space, a window or a wider visual field.

She also recommends having a solid, flat wall behind you for support and stability, rather than an angled corner or uneven structure.

Sharp corners should be avoided for the same reasons as in the home, they can cause stress and even physical pain depending on where they point.

For Malaysians working from home, especially in small spaces, she shares a simple formula: the left side of the desk should be taller, and the right side lower and clear. Tall items such as monitors or shelves should be placed on the left.

“The left represents helpful people and support, while the right represents creativity. When the right is open, ideas come more easily,” she says.

Can Feng Shui bring you money?

Ask any Malaysian and most will associate feng shui with wealth, luck or windfall. Master Suyen acknowledges this but quickly corrects the misconception.

“People think feng shui can make them wealthy overnight. I also want that! But it doesn’t work that way,” she laughs.

Feng shui supports wealth by improving clarity, behaviour and decision-making. When someone is mentally grounded and emotionally stable, opportunities become easier to recognise and act on. Wealth manifests because the person is prepared, not because money magically drops from the sky.

However, she adds that if someone has a specific objective, such as closing a business deal, sitting in the right sector or using the right energy area can increase the chances of success. But doing nothing and expecting results does not align with feng shui at all.

“First you must know what you want. If you don’t, place yourself in a good feng shui area — it can help you gain clarity. Then, when your mind is clear, you align your actions and eventually the money follows.”

Feng Shui for 2026: fast, ruthless and explosive energy

For 2026, Master Suyen uses three words to describe the year’s overall energy: fast, ruthless and explosive. She explains that the climate of the year is full of intense fire energy, which can manifest as impatience, emotional volatility, overexcitement and things moving too quickly to process.

“You haven’t even thought about something, and it already happens. You haven’t decided, and things move on. Opportunities can be lost simply because everything is so fast,” she warns.

Her advice is to stay calm, avoid rushing into decisions, and keep your goals simple and clear. “Don’t spread yourself too thin. Focus on what you need to achieve this year and stick to your own path,” she says. Interfering in other people’s matters or comparing yourself to others can easily pull you off track in a year like this.

From a spatial perspective, she explains that the East and Southeast sectors bring opportunity and wealth-related energy in 2026. The South sector, however, carries resistance, mishaps and emotional instability. She stresses that this does not require Malaysians to shift bedrooms or renovate homes every year, it simply means being aware, prepared and strategic, just like following a weather forecast.

Final advice for Malaysians in 2026

As a challenging fire-heavy year, 2026 demands emotional stability, good rest and deliberate decision-making. Master Suyen urges Malaysians to focus on their personal goals, avoid unnecessary involvement in other people’s issues, and keep their homes clean and clear.

She also reminds Malaysians to avoid heavy activities in the South sector of the home this year, as its energy is less favourable.

Overall, clarity, calmness and simplicity will be the keys to navigating a fast, fiery year. “Be steady, eat well, sleep well, and move at your own pace. When the world speeds up, your inner stability is your protection,” she says.
