We Tried EMFACE Submentum, the 20-minute, Non-Invasive Facelift that Claims to Reduce Your Double Chin
In the ever-evolving world of beauty and skincare, anti-aging and skin-tightening treatments are rapidly gaining popularity in Malaysia and worldwide due to their promise of fast results. However, the problem with these cosmetic procedures is that they usually take hours to perform and weeks or even months to heal.
Additionally, some can be potentially painful, invasive, or even dangerous in the long term, which is not something that anyone should go through just to look and feel a little better.
BTL Aesthetics’s EMFACE treatments have become a favourite amongst celebrities for toning and tightening the face without injections or invasive measures. One of their latest innovations to hit the market is EMFACE Submentum, a 20-minute facial treatment that claims to tone and lift your face and reduce the appearance of a double chin without a single incision or needle.
We were invited to test EMFACE Submentum to see if it can deliver on its promise of reducing the appearance of double chins in just a couple of sessions.
What is the EMFACE Submentum?
EMFACE Submentum is the first treatment designed to target every layer from muscle to skin in the double chin area. In just four 20-minute sessions, it tightens the digastric muscle, reduces fat by 31-35%, and rejuvenates the skin, enhancing the jawline's contour.
The RF+ technology used exclusively for this area delivers higher temperatures and deeper RF energy to decrease fat while boosting collagen and elastin while HIFES stimulates the digastric muscle to selectively tone laxity and lift the submental area—all without surgery, needles, bruising, or downtime.
So, how exactly does EMFACE work? In short, the HIFES contracts your forehead and cheek muscles with an electromagnetic current to elevate and lift facial tissue. At the same time, the RF technology uses heat energy to prompt a wound-healing response in your skin.
This process increases collagen and elastin, the two main proteins responsible for keeping your face soft and plump.
Although EMFACE is known for its products, which tone and sculpt the skin around your forehead and cheek areas, the EMFACE Submentum differs from these as it explicitly targets every layer of the double chin, from muscle to skin.
Our experience with EMFACE Submentum
To test the procedure, we were invited to MX Clinic in Bangsar to test the EMFACE Submentum, mainly focused on reducing double chins.
As I laid in the treatment room, they taped a grounding pad to my back while the EMFACE applicator was taped to my chin to target my double chin. These pads are connected to a machine that emits mild heat and vibrates, resulting in this weird, involuntary twitching of your facial muscles. There were also different perecentages to the procedure, from one to ten, with one being the weakest and least effective and ten being the full-on procedure.
It started off slowly, and we couldn’t feel much during the first few percentages. After we passed percentage five, both the heat and the intensity of the vibrations started to ramp up. Although it’s hard to describe the feeling, on higher percentages, the vibrations were akin to someone yanking your teeth from your gums.
As someone with a pretty low pain tolerance, I couldn’t go much higher than percentage seven, as the feeling had gotten quite intense. Fortunately, the practitioner stated that the muscles in my chin were contracting well and that although I wasn’t capable of experiencing EMFACE Submentum at the max percentage, I should still see some results.
The 20-minute procedure felt quick, and we’d say that the entire session, including set up and preparation, takes close to 30 minutes overall.
After the pads were removed, my skin was slightly red and sore, but it quickly dissipated within a few minutes, and my face felt and looked lifted immediately.
Is it worth it?
We think that the EMFACE Submentum is a total game-changer in the noninvasive beauty treatment space. Not only is it safe for all skin tones and types (except for patients with metal in their faces), but it is also a great way to quickly lift, tone, and smooth without any downtime or injections.
It is worth noting that, on average, the procedure costs RM2,500 onwards per session (depending on the clinic), which may be a little costly. However, a session taking less than 30 minutes is the perfect treatment for working adults to squeeze in a quick lunchtime or post-work session.
Although we only got to experience one session rather than the recommended four sessions, we’d highly recommend that anyone wanting to experiment with tightening treatments and reduce their double chins to give it a go. I certainly felt a slight difference right after the treatment, as if my chin area was more sculpted and less loose.
For those looking to tighten other areas of the face, MX Clinic also offers various other EMFACE treatments which can sculpt and tone your forehead and cheeks. You can also opt for a combination of the treatments.
