If you're not familiar with the customs, on Hari Raya Aidiladha, Muslims around the world slaughter cows or goats as part of the ‘korban’ or sacrifice.

And this year, one local company decided to step it up by offering a luxurious form of ‘korban’ using Wagyu cattles from Japan.

'Korban', but make it atas

The company, Asia Harvest Agro, is now the talk of social media after offering Wagyu ‘korban’ that costs a staggering RM29,999 – and that isn’t even the cost of the whole cattle!

The hefty price tag is for only one out of seven parts of the cow, and each buyer will receive a grand total of 50kg of wagyu beef, which will reportedly be slaughtered in a halal slaughterhouse in Miyazaki, Japan that has been approved by JAKIM.

According to the company, only A5-grade Wagyu cows weighing 800kg will be used for the ceremony.

Netizens, Malaysians not particularly happy

However, netizens weren’t too pleased with the idea of a luxurious ‘korban’, accusing them for being capitalists.

Some netizens are even encouraging the company to be moderate.

According to Astro Awani, Asia Harvest Agro managing director Najib Jalil said they launched the package on Thursday (2 June) after consulting with various parties, which includes religious experts as well.

Najib admitted that upon launching the package, they received quite a backlash from Malaysians.

“The criticism received was when they questioned the purpose of the charity and why not do regular slaughter that could have more cows for the korban,” Najib was quoted as saying.

“However, there are also responses from dignitaries and associations who wish to join the korban.”

“The purpose is to provide a platform for people who can afford sacrificing the best bulls in the world.”
