Reading about North Korea sometimes feels like reading a dystopian novel.

Some of the laws are so bizarre and scary that anyone who values even an ounce of freedom will shudder just thinking about it.

Harsh punishments

Today reported that under the newly enacted “anti-reactionary thought”, it's illegal for North Koreans to consume content produced by South Koreans, as well as the Americans and Japanese.

That's right. No 'Crash Landing on You', 'Vincenzo' or even BTS songs for the North Koreans.


What would happen if they do illegally consume such content or try to speak like their Southern neighbours? Up to 15 years in forced labour camp or even death.

Those caught importing banned content from South Korean face life imprisonment, while those importing banned content from the United States and Japan face death sentence.

Nope, we're not pulling your legs: it is that serious of a crime.

Looks like Kim Jong Un is really like an evil dictator in dystopian novels. We hope a revolution is in the cards for the people sooner rather than later.
