In a report by Buletin TV3, one of the riders, Muhammad Haikal Mohd Yassin, 22, said he was not motivated by desire for recognition, but he lent a hand to catch the thief to protect his reputation as a food delivery rider.

“The suspect had been impersonating a Foodpanda rider by carrying the company's food delivery bag. The actions of this criminal could lead to us being wrongly associated with him, even though many of us worked tirelessly to earn an honest living,” he said, as reported in Malay Mail.

Muhammad Haikal shared that on the fateful day, on April 23, he had received information about a snatch thief from a friend at a local supermarket. However, when he rushed there, the criminal had long been gone.

“We rushed to Malim after that, but we coincidentally ran into him. Upon realising he was being chased, the criminal started to act aggressively by kicking my motorcycle."

"We chased for about 12 km before we managed to run him off the road. The suspect tried to run away, but I managed to apprehend him,” he shared.

Another rider from the group had previously assisted the police in combating crime in the area

For Abdul Aziz Ibrahim, 55, who had been a Foodpanda delivery rider for five years, it was the first time he had ever received an official recognition.

Abdul Aziz shared that prior to the arrest, he had been contacted by the police to assist in locating the suspect, who was allegedly impersonating a Foodpanda delivery rider.

“I was contacted by the Special Investigation Division (D9) from the Melaka police district headquarters who asked for help in catching the suspect. This led me to create a WhatsApp group with trusted Foodpanda riders to assist in the case,” he said.
