Now, it looks like several other recreational parks are going to suffer the same fate due to some really stubborn Malaysians.

Unruly behaviour

The Star Online reported that DBKL is planning to close Taman Botani Perdana, Taman Metropolitan, Taman Tasik Permaisuri and Taman Tasik Datuk Keramat to teach the public a lesson to take social distancing seriously.

DBKL corporate planning director Khairul Azmir Ahmad told the news portal that a decision will be made soon on whether to close the parks.

“We have no choice but to take drastic action if people refuse to follow the rules and blatantly break the rules.

“Our enforcement officers report that people are having picnics in the park, sometimes 20 to 30 people all from one family, sitting together in close proximity.

“They give a hard time to the officers when they are asked to leave. And then some parents are removing the restrictive yellow tape placed around amenities like the children’s playground and exercise equipment and allowing their children to use it, ’’ he was quoted as saying.

To make matters worse, DBKL officers on duty were also reportedly threatened by the public when they were just doing their jobs.

“Officers have reported that some members of the public have threatened to call the police if DBKL officers continue to harass them.

“I understand they have been cooped up at home for months and need some fresh air for physical and mental health, but this is not the way to do it," he said, adding that the move has to be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
