Have you been to the Tanjung Batu Waterfall before?

If you've visited it, you'll be shocked to see it's current state.

NGO Friends Of The Earth Activist Association (Kuasa) posted several before and after pictures of the waterfalls, and it's shocking.

According to a report by New Straits Times, Kuasa deputy chairman said that the waterfalls used to have seven tiers but there is hardly any water there now.

"The waterfall is believed to have seven tiers, with a pool for every tier, but today we see all that has changed," he was quoted as saying.

Kuasa believes that the drastic change is the result of quarrying activities at the Segari Melintang Forest Reserve in Pantai, Perak.

"I am confident if all quarrying stops and the waterfall is left alone, it can revert to its natural state once again," he said.

He explained that what was concerning was that the contractor employed fro the quarrying work was appointed by a state-owned company, MB Inc.

Netizens angered by revelation

The matter has since been highlighted to the authorities with many netizens also voicing out their concern and anger.

"Just destroyed like that. Our heritage and domestic tourism destroyed due to the greed of people. There is nothing left for the future generation. Malaysia does not know how to value it's treasures," tweeted @CtyZainab2.

"It is sad to see the forest treated in such a way, all the places are destroyed, the policy of greedy politicians!" tweeted @amsyarlona.

"Sad to see our forests destroyed like this," commented @iyLaFiNn.

"If seeing this does not make you angry or sad, please get professional help," tweeted @markonahajis.

Authorities looking into the matter

It is extremely concerning to see the sad condition of the falls but the report said that the authorities were already looking into the matter.

"If what is happening is because of failure to comply with the licensing conditions, then stern action will be taken against the relevant parties. This issue will be resolved as soon as possible," said Perak Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin.

We hope they get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
