Anwar Ibrahim Is Finally A Free Man!
The moment Malaysians have been waiting for has finally arrived: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim left the Cheras Rehabilitation Centre as a free man on 11.30am on Wednesday.
Hundreds of local and international press members camped in front of the center to catch a glimpse of the man of the hour as he walks out of the rehab center decked smartly in a black suit.
He was on his way to meet the Yang diPertuan Agong for his royal pardon.
Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad and his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will also be at the meeting.
According to reports, the palace has granted a full pardon to Anwar and is freed with immediate effect.
The former Deputy Prime Minister was initially scheduled to be released on 8 June but it all changed when the then-opposition party coalition historically defeated Barisan Nasional during the 14th General Elections.Palace confirms that @anwaribrahim has been granted a full pardon by the King and has been freed with immediate effect. pic.twitter.com/G9Y5itYN7t— Sumisha Naidu (@SumishaCNA) May 16, 2018
Following the win, Pakatan Harapan immediately worked on Anwar’s royal pardon after Tun Mahathir was officially sworn in as our seventh Prime Minister last week.
Anwar is set to hold a press conference at around 4 to 4.30pm after meeting the King.
Tun Mahathir previously said that the PKR leader would have to “contest a parliamentary seat after being pardoned and could then possibly be appointed to the Cabinet”, according to The Star.
