Apart From Khairy Jamaluddin, The Sultan Of Terengganu Will Also Be Taking Part In The 2017 SEA Games

In case you’ve missed it, Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin will be taking part in the 2017 SEA Games which will be held in Kuala Lumpur this August.

He will be galloping his way in the SEA Games via the polo event, becoming the first minister in the region to take part as an athlete in the games.

However, we just learned another prominent Malaysian figure will also take part in the games, and he is someone you would not expect to do so – the Sultan of Terengganu, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

His Royal Highness will be participating in the equestrian (endurance) games.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) President, Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar told The Star that “any Malaysian can be good enough to represent the country at the SEA Games and that includes our Youth and Sports Minister.”

“He is available. He has taken time to train and he has come through a selection process. OCM ensured that the selection process was done properly. He was given a fair chance.”

Chef-de-mission Datuk Marina Chin also said that it was “heartening” to see young athletes, seasoned campaigners, a minister and a Sultan in the Malaysian contingent.

A total of 871 athletes will be representing Malaysia for the games out of the 4,888 athletes across the Southeast Asian region. This is the highest number of athletes we have ever sent to compete.

11 countries will be participating in 405 events out of 38 sports and the Malaysian contingent will only take part in 397 events.

Well, we can’t wait to see how our Malaysian contingent will fare during the games. Of course we have confidence that all of them are capable of tapau-ing all their opponents. We wish them all the best and good luck. Malaysia boleh!
