Beware, Guys; The Authorities Have Quietly Changed How The AES Cameras Work

The authorities are now coming at you from behind - quite literally.

According to a report by theSun, the Transport Ministry has quietly made some changes to how the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras capture images of traffic offenders.

Under the new system, the cameras will now be positioned to capture images of vehicles from the back.

Deputy transport minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi told the daily that this new system is actually standard international practice, and countries that have adopted this system include Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom.

The reason for doing so, according to Abdul Aziz, is because the cameras would be able to capture pictures of vehicle registration numbers better from the back.

He also added that the move is also aimed at nabbing errant motorcyclists.

So motorcyclists, you're no longer safe from AES cameras.

Oh, here's the thing: the new system has reportedly been in place since July.

All 21 AES cameras nationwide have been tweaked to take pictures from behind, and future AES cameras -- more than 50 will be installed by the end of the year, according to this report -- will also be following this new rule.
