Malaysia is set host this year’s SEA Games and Asean Para Games from 19 August to 31 August, and from 17 September to 23 September respectively.

So, what better way to commemorate the event than proudly owning special edition number plates in conjunction with the games? The plate has been aptly named as ‘RIMAU’, perhaps an ode to our official national animal.

The bidding will kick off tomorrow, 1 April for numbers between ‘RIMAU 1’ to ‘RIMAU 9999’ with a starting price of RM500.

According to a report by The Star, Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin says that the proceeds of the bidding would help offset the cost of hosting the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

"We hope to get as much as possible from the bidding process because not only the number plates are a memento to the people but also the proceeds can be used for financing the organising cost,” Khairy told the English daily.

Those who are interested to get hold of one of the 10,000 special number plates can make their online bidding via the KL2017 website, www.kualalumpur2017.com.my via an e-bid system.

So, pick your numbers wisely and pray that you’ll be the winner of your preferred number. And if you’re upset that your number has been outbid, don’t worry, because the bidding will last for two weeks until 14 April, so you’ll have plenty of time to choose another number.
