While the need of a booster shot following the full completion of Covid-19 vaccination is a widely discussed topic currently, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has opined that the booster shots won’t necessarily help control the spread of the Delta variant.

In fact, he said vaccinating those who are not vaccinated is more important!

"What will help control the Delta variant is vaccinating those who have yet to be vaccinated.

"We must increase vaccination coverage in the country before considering booster shots, no one is safe until everyone is safe," he tweeted.

Before this, it was reported that the Selangor government is making preparations to provide the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine under its Selangor Vaccine Programme (SelVAX).

Reports by several international media suggests that the protection one gets from being vaccinated against COVID-19 wanes over time, although the studies quoted have not been peer reviewed.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released the studies, saying that booster shots for several brands of COVID-19 vaccines may be necessary in the future.

Despite the likelihood of a higher chances of infection, being vaccinated still keeps the impact of the infection milder and protects those who have gotten the full shots from death.
