Now that the state elections are over, we can concentrate on an important celebration for the month of August: our 66th year of independence! Back for its 23rd year, the Usaha Tegas Heritage Art Competition is inviting all Malaysian students to celebrate the nation’s rich cultural history through art with some lucrative prizes up for grabs. We’re talking cold, hard cash for to help students with their endless bills.

Who can join?

The national level art competition is open to all Malaysian students especially those pursuing full-time study in private or public tertiary institutions in Malaysia with no age restrictions.

What are the prizes?

If you’re short of cash (who isn’t in this economy?), take note because there are five prizes to be awarded in each category:

1st Place: RM 8,000 cash

2nd Place: RM 3,000 cash

3rd Place: RM 2,000 cash

2 x Consolation: RM 500 cash

All winners will also receive an award certificate and RM500 worth of TGV Cinema vouchers or equivalent.

What’s the theme?

The art competition focuses on the theme of ‘Malaysian Heritage,’ with a special emphasis on our nation’s intangible cultural heritage in this year’s competition. This includes oral traditions, the performing arts, customs and social practices, and traditional crafts. The theme is also in line with Malaysia’s entry into the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (IGCICH) under UNESCO for the 2022-2026 term.

What are the categories?

Participants can submit as many entries as they would like and participate in more than one category:

The deadline for registration is 30 September 2023 and the final artwork submission deadline is 9 October 2023. You will first need to register and only complete the submission form once your artwork is ready.

Usaha Tegas, founded by Mr T Ananda Krishnan, has interests in various local and international companies operating across diverse industries such as telecommunications, media, property and oil & gas.
