Chill, Malaysians; There Will Be No Equinox Phenomenon This Week
There's no need to cancel your outings this week, guys!
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has quelled rumours that the Equinox phenomenon will hit the country this week.
The rumours were widely circulated on social media, causing quite a bit of a panic amongst Malaysians.
The message claims that Malaysia will experience the dreaded phenomenon on Thursday, adding that midday temperatures will hit a scorching 40 degrees Celcius.
Thankfully, the rumours are false, the Met Department tells The New Straits Times.
“The temperature high forecasted for tomorrow (Thursday) is between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius.
“We ask for the public not to spread rumours and cause panic,” a Met Department spokesperson was quoted as saying.
The last time the temperature hit 40 degrees Celcius in Malaysia was during the 1997-1998 El Nino Phenomenon (dubbed the most powerful El Nino event in recorded history), where the temperature peaked at 40.1 degree Celcius on 9 April.
So, feel free to pack your bags and head to the beach, guys!
Oh, and don't forget to wear sunscreen. The weather might not be too hot, but the sun is still going to sting.
