China is not one for subtlety, as demonstrated by this piece of news.

Apparently, the country has devoted a mountainous stretch of highway in the eastern Shandong province specifically for testing connected and self-driving vehicles.

Wow!

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the local Qilu Transportation Development Group has set it sights on a 26-kilometre-long highway to test out autonomous driving and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.

The mountainous highway will reportedly boast three tunnels, a bridge and three toll stations.

The future is here.
The tests consist of road sensors, laser and microwave radars, panoramic video surveillance, weather monitoring and traffic signs that can communicate with vehicles.

The project is part of the country’s efforts to challenge the United States in autonomous driving technology and through it, a world-class testing, research and development centre and incubator for driverless vehicles is set to be built by 2023.

The project will also explore integrated innovative business models surrounding smart infrastructure, new energy, autonomous driving, logistics, tourism and more in the next five years.

If we've learnt anything from watching 'Pacific Rim: Uprising', China would soon build killer robots and that would be the end of mankind.
