By the end of the year, when you pick your nose while you're in traffic, the government will know!

Bernama reports that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be installing more Automatic Enforcement System (AES) cameras this year.

JPJ's director-general Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron told the news portal that motorists can expect to see seven more AES cameras on roads by the end of the year.

However, Nadzri declined to reveal where these new cameras will be placed. Bummer!

But thankfully, Nadzri did reveal that the cameras will be put up at accident-prone areas, and the department - together with the police, the Road Safety Department and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) - has already pinpointed several locations around Malaysia with high frequency of accidents.

“These additional cameras can help reduce road accidents,” he was quoted by the news agency as saying.

Currently, there are 14 AES cameras installed nationwide, mainly at major highways around the country.

Last month, the JPJ officially enforced the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) in an effort to bust habitual traffic offenders.

The Kejara Demerit Points System also officially took effect on 15 April.
