Hotels that have been in operations for decades have been force to closed in recent times as people stay home, borders are closed, holidays and large gatherings of any kinds been halted.

For G City Club Hotel Sdn Bhd's premise, COVID-19 was the last nail on the coffin.

According to a report by The Star, the hotel that targets corporate clients has been seeing decreased business in the past few years with the cropping up of new hotels and homestays.

It also saw decreased clientele from the oil and as industry, and the continued roadworks in the Kuala Lumpur city centre has also affected its business.

After 10 years in the industry, the G City Club Hotel decided to close its doors, leaving dozens of employees without an income.

Other hotels affected too

According to a Straits Times report, several hotels in Penang and Perak will also face closure.

The hotels - Jazz Hotel, Hotel Penaga and Jerejak Island Resort in Penang and Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites in Perak - have found that they could not survive the prolonged closure due to COVID-19 and the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The report also showed that Mercure Penang Beach and The Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences in Penang, and Travelodge Ipoh in Perak, under the management of Plenitude Bhd will also be closing.

It further states that 15 per cent of hotels in Malaysia are considering permenent closure, while 35 per cent are contemplating temperory closure.

We can already see the trend of the end of many hotel businesses with the closure of the hotels mentioned above and more.

In Melaka, five prominent hotels have also shut its doors to customers.

According to The Star, the hotels could not cope with the loss of business. Although the names of the hotels were not mentioned, one of the hotels that is said to be involved is the Ramada Hotel Melaka.
