Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the recent assault on the son of former economy minister Rafizi Ramli, calling it a disturbing reflection of a growing culture of violence and intimidation in Malaysia.

Speaking during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar expressed deep concern over the incident, which he said underscores a troubling rise in bullying and aggression — even targeting children of public figures.

"Lately, we're seeing issues of bullying, and now the child of a member of parliament has been targeted," he said.

Anwar assured Parliament that he had already instructed Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail to conduct a full and transparent investigation.

He further pledged swift action to address the broader issue of violence against children. "I assure you that they will act swiftly, not just to take action, but to put an end to this harmful culture," Anwar said.

The Prime Minister was responding to Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakthiar Wan Chik, who urged authorities to act decisively and bring those responsible to justice

Rafizi Ramli’s son attacked by two men

Yesterday, Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli revealed that his 12-year-old son was attacked by two men dressed in black and wearing helmets at a Putrajaya shopping mall. In a Facebook post, Rafizi said one of the men jabbed his son with a syringe as he and his mother were about to get into their car.

Rafizi stated that the attackers had been following his wife’s car, suggesting the incident was premeditated. His son was rushed to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Hospital, and police began their investigation shortly after.

Rafizi and his family have since given their statements to the police. He also believes the attack may have been a warning aimed at him.

“I believe this attack was meant to warn me to stop speaking out on certain issues. Thank you to everyone who messaged and checked in on us. God willing, while I’ll take extra steps to tighten security, I won’t bow to threats and will keep doing my job as usual,” he said.
