The country has just recently welcomed their 14th city: Iskandar Puteri in Johor.The proclamation was made by the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johor, at a ceremony in Medini Iskandar on Wednesday, reported The New Straits Times.
Iskandar Puteri is now Johor's second city, after Johor Baru.
According to the daily, the local council - which was formerly known as the Johor Baru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) - will now be renamed to Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP).
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin told NST that the move was made to demonstrate the "competitiveness of Johor and Malaysia" as a new economic power.
Its goal in the future, according to Khaled, is to "compete with other successful and well-known cities like Dubai, Doha, Tokyo, Seoul, London, Sydney and others".

With a jurisdiction over an area covering 40,296 hectares, Iskandar Puteri is the home to almost 700,000 Johoreans.

The little city also houses Kota Iskandar, the administrative centre for the government of Johor State, as well as the Johor State Legislative Assembly and Johor Chief Minister's Office.
