Yesterday, a trash collector got the shock of his life when the dismembered arm of an unidentified woman tumbled out of a bin as he was loading waste into his truck.

Just a few hours later, authorities managed to locate a head and torso, believed to be from the same victim, at another disposal unit near a supermarket in Indah Permai.

Personal dispute & demand for engagement money believed to be the motive

Less than 24 hours after the discovery of the body parts, the main suspect in the case was arrested.

Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, said that during initial questioning, the 71‑year‑old local suspect admitted to being involved in the incident. The motive is believed to stem from a personal dispute and a demand for engagement money.

“The suspect claimed the murder was related to a personal conflict between him and the victim, including the issue of demanding engagement money after their engagement was believed to have ended because the victim had married another individual."

“This situation is believed to have sparked an argument between the suspect and the victim, leading to the incident,” he said, as reported by Harian Metro.

Witness information further revealed that the victim had been seen running out of a house in panic before being pulled back by a man, providing an important clue to investigators.

During the operation, several items, including a mobile phone, clothes believed to have been worn during the incident, and a gold Nissan X‑Trail, were confiscated for forensic analysis.

Both suspects are now being detained to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
