We have plenty of Wonder Women in our country with outstanding achievements and groundbreaking discoveries, and its time to add another woman to the list.
 
Dr Masliza Mahmod achiveved a historical feat after she became the first Malaysian woman to be appointed as an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Oxford University as reported by Bernama.

For her contributions to medicine

According to Oxford's Radcliffe Department of Medicine, Dr Masliza's research focuses on the use of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and spectroscopy techniques for early detection of cardiac abnormalities as well as to find novel treatment for patients with cardiomyopathy, heart failure, aortic valve disease, and diabetes mellitus.
 

Her record-breaking achievement not only attracted the attention of Malaysians, but our own Health Director General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and Yang di-Pertuan Agong as well.
 
“She is indeed a brilliant cardiologist and despite difficulties and challenges, her perseverance and deep passion in clinical research makes her an outstanding academic cardiologist.”
 
“There is no stopping her now to achieve greater heights. We are proud of her achievements and she creates a history today as the first successful Malaysian woman in Cardiovascular Medicine at Oxford University,” Noor Hisham said in a Facebook post.
 

The King, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, expressed his thoughts on the 47-year-old’s doctor appointment via Istana Negara’s Instagram.

12 Julai 2020 - KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong menzahirkan ucapan tahniah kepada Dr Masliza binti Mahmod di atas pelantikan beliau sebagai Profesor Madya bagi Perubatan Kardiovaskular di Universiti Oxford, United Kingdom baru-baru ini. Seri Paduka Baginda turut menzahirkan rasa bangga di atas kenaikan pangkat tersebut dan juga di atas kejayaan Dr Masliza melakar sejarah sebagai wanita pertama Malaysia dilantik sebagai Profesor Madya bagi Perubatan Kardiovaskular di Universiti Oxford. Seri Paduka Baginda turut berbangga kerana kejayaan Dr Masliza juga telah mengharumkan nama negara di persada dunia. Sehubungan itu, Seri Paduka Baginda menzahirkan harapan semoga pencapaian dan ketabahan Dr Masliza menjadi sumber inspirasi dan tauladan kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia untuk bekerja keras dan berusaha mencapai kejayaan di dalam bidang masing-masing di dalam negara mahu pun di persada dunia. Seri Paduka Baginda mengucapkan selamat maju jaya kepada Dr Masliza dan mendoakan semoga beliau dilimpahi kejayaan cemerlang berterusan di dalam bidang kardiologi dan sebagai seorang pakar kardiologi yang ulung di dunia. Menurut Jabatan Perubatan Radcliffe di Universiti Oxford, penyelidikan Dr Masliza memfokus kepada penggunaan pengimejan resonans magnetik kardiovaskular (CMR), teknik-teknik spektroskopi bagi pengesanan awal kelainan jantung serta mencari rawatan baharu untuk pesakit kardiomiopati, kegagalan jantung, penyakit injap aorta dan diabetes mellitus. Doktor berusia 47 tahun dari Batu Pahat, Johor itu kini menganggotai Jawatankuasa Pemandu Pasukan Petugas Penyelidikan Kegagalan Jantung British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (BSCMR). Ahli Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) dari London itu memiliki ljazah Sarjana Perubatan Dalaman (MMed) dari Malaysia dan ijazah perubatan awal (MBChB) dari Universiti Otago, New Zealand.

The cardiologist from Batu Pahat, Johor earned her Master of Internal Medicine (MMed) from Malaysia and primary medical degree (MBChB) from Otago University, New Zealand.
