Early Morning Fire At Keramat Tahfiz School Kills 25 People
This morning the nation received heart-breaking news after a religious (tahfiz) school in Jalan Keramat Ujung, Datuk Keramat caught fire that resulted in the death of 23 students and two teachers so far as reported by the New Straits Times. The victims were as young as seven years old.
The second floor of the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Centre were found to be engulfed in flames around 5.30am as residents were waking up to prepare for the early morning prayers. City Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 5.41am and immediately dispatched firefighters to the location.
Firefighters managed to rescue six students who were in critical condition from the harrowing incident and they were all brought for treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. A few others including teachers managed to escape.
A spokesperson for the City Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that they found charred bodies slumped in three different locations and the victims were all dead.

“I was sleeping when suddenly, I heard noises like gas leaking from a tank.”
“When I woke up, fire had already engulfed the front door. Immediately, several of us started to try to wake up our friends. However, some of them did not wake up at all.”
What’s even more distressing is the videos of the scene that made rounds on social media whereby screams from the victims and desperate cries for help can be clearly heard.
