The official date for the upcoming general election is currently still up in the air but the Election Commission (EC) has launched a mobile application to make it easier for voters.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t enable you to vote with your mobile phones although that would make the entire process a whole lot more convenient.

The newly launched MYSPR SEMAK app reportedly allows you to check your registration status and receive results from the elections, as well as voting centers and live updates. This should reduce the chances of obtaining polling results from unofficial sources which could cause confusion.

According to The Malay Mail, EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said this app will help voters access the information firsthand and get more accurate results.

He added that the app will hopefully help combat the negative public perception that the EC is biased, following the many complaints and grievances received regarding the voting results during the last general election.

The app is now available on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

You can also opt to check your voting status via text message, the official website of the EC, or manually at EC booths and offices located around the country.
