An impossible sounding name for a stadium is already hard to digest, but sharp netizens later pointed out another interesting fact about the unique name. According to a report in Sinar Harian, people noticed that the name is actually Padang Terap district officer Hakim Ariff Md Noor’s name spelt in reverse.

Did he name the stadium after himself?

Following all the talk, Hakim Ariff has come out to deny the allegations.

Instead, he has claimed that the name is a combination of Arabic and Spanish or Greek.

“It has nothing to do with my name. It has implicit meaning. It was proposed during the administrative meeting.

“In Spanish or Greek, 'ffira' means something great whereas 'mikah' in Arabic means angel,” he told Sinar Harian. The report also said checks on Google revealed that ‘ffira’ was not recognised as Spanish or Greek but is auto-detected as a Bulgarian word which means ‘wastage’.

Why rename the stadium in the first place, you ask?

Well, the mini stadium recently underwent a RM200,000 upgrade, hence the renaming.

Following the controversy however, state authorities decided that it would be best to just change the name from Ffira Mikah Mini Stadium to the Kuala Nerang Mini Stadium. We're still trying to digest the fact that this actually happened.
