Following Tumour Removal, Baby Ainul Will Undergo Cleft Palate Surgery Next

Earlier this week, Malaysians received news that many have been anticipating – baby Ainul Mardhiah has successfully underwent operation to remove her tumour that weighed 200g.

The 10-month-old baby suffered from a rare form of cancer, Germ Cell Tumour, and was flown all the way to the United Kingdom for treatment.

She’s currently recovering and if her condition improves, she will be transferred from the ICU to the normal ward today.

According to Ainul’s father, Ahmad Safiuddin Ahmad Razak, she will have to undergo another surgery – cleft palate surgery - once she is six to eight kilogrammes in weight. Ainul has cleft palate since birth.

When asked when they will return to Malaysia, Safiuddin says that when everything (her treatment) has settled, they will bring Ainul home.

Baby Ainul is currently under observation to make sure her tumour doesn’t regrow and the doctors will also teach her how to eat using her mouth in the near future.

Safiuddin also added that the nurse who takes care of Ainul in ICU said “Today I saw her smile! She’s a strong baby.”
