The aviation industry is among one of the industries affected very badly due to the virus and more companies are expected to downsize soon.
On social media, the news came as a surprise for some Malindo employees and many of them shared their last memories serving the company.
Besides photos, some even penned heartfelt messages about their career journey and netizens who sympathised with their plight left encouraging messages for them.
According to reports, Malindo will retrench a total of 9,000 staff members out of 10,000 and will also reduce the amount of aircrafts.
Here are what some of the former employees are saying following the news:
2000 Malindo staff signing off with farewell wishes on medsoc. It is a loss of livelihood: the ability to support ourselves and often our families. This must be incredibly difficult for you guys. Stay strong @malindoair. We're all in this together #sad #malindo #COVID pic.twitter.com/8owYTuO95y

Malindo Air retrenching their manpower from 10,000 staff to 3,000 staff. And now, they're retrenching another 2,000 staff. And only need 1,000 manpower to survive.

We hope that there will be a rainbow at the end of this storm soon for the employees and everyone affected by the pandemic. The government should also set up some sort of programme or assistance to those were recently retrenched.
Stay strong fellow Malaysians, may we pass this testing period together.
