On Wednesday (7 September), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that cinemas around the country are allowed to reopen again, The Star reported.However, when the cinemas open their doors again on Thursday (9 September), only those who have completed two doses of their vaccination can be allowed in.
Ismail Sabri also said that cinemas halls could only operate at 50 per cent audience capacity.
Of course, the standard operating procedures (SOPs) -- social distancing, wear face masks at all times, no hanky-panky business while in the cinema, etc. -- also apply.
The decision to reopen cinemas was part of the government's decision to relax the SOPs for the creative industry, for states currently categorised under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
"This relaxation will also benefit more than 19,000 companies in the creative sector," he said in a statement quoted by the news portal.
This is definitely good news for cinema operators, who were forced to close for more than a year since the first movement control order (MCO) came into effect in March 2020.
