In light of the continued increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, the government has decided to re-impose Movement Control Order (MCO) in areas with high positive cases.

The new MCO will take effect from 13 January to 26 January 2021.

It will be implemented in three stages.

States that are affected by the MCO are Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, Selangor, Melaka, Johor and Sabah.

Controled MCO (CMCO) will apply in Pahang, Perak, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Recovery MCO (RMCO) will take effect in Perlis and Sarawak.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a special address, said that number of COVID cases has been in the four digits.

Data shows that there's a huge increase in number of clusters in the third wave.

"Our healthcare system is at a breaking point," the prime minister said.

Muhyiddin also announced that interdistrict and interstate travel is allowed during this period.

In states where MCO is being implemented, you can only travel within 10 kilometre radius.

Social activites are also not allowed during this time.
