If your road tax and driving license are nearing their expiry dates and you worry that you can’t renew them due to the Movement Control order (MCO), worry not!

This is because the Government has decided to give exemptions for those who need to renew these documents during the period.

According to The Star, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said drivers were however advised to carry their insurance cover notes while driving.

“Anyone who has an expired driving licence can still use their respective vehicles on the condition that the vehicle has valid insurance coverage.

“Previously, driving licence holders were told to enew their licence online via the mySikap JPJ and MyEG portals during the MCO period.

“However, with this announcement, people are exempted from the requirement to renew their driving licence during the MCO period, ” he said.

Road tax renewals for commercial vehicles also on hold

Wee said road tax renewals for commercial and goods vehicles have been put on hold as well, including the need to to go through computerised vehicle viability tests via Puspakom and mandatory driver health checks.

Do take note that once the MCO period ends, commercial vehicles must renew their road taxes within 30 days.
