The Government Is Likely To Allow Interstate Travel By First Half Of October
With some state borders reopening for tourism purposes, we're pretty sure a lot of Malaysians are wondering when interstate travels will be allowed so that they can balik kampung and meet their loved ones.
Well, we finally have a definitive answer.
In a week or two
The government will reportedly likely allow interstate travel during the first half of October.National Recovery Council chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told The Star that interstate travel was one of the issues discussed during the council’s meeting on Monday (27 September).
According to Muhyiddin, the Council was told that interstate travel could be allowed "early October or latest, the middle of the month".
"So, you can start making plans to travel the country after this. But at the same time, do not forget to practise COVID-19 SOPs (standard operating procedure)," Muhyiddin was quoted as saying.

This came after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri announced that interstate travel will be allowed once 90 per cent of the adult population in Malaysia have been fully vaccinated.
"As such, I have instructed the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to work closely with the Health Ministry so that we reach the 90 per cent adult population target as soon as possible.
"This includes having more Combat Medic Vaccination teams help the Health Ministry vaccinate the public, including those in rural areas," he was quoted as saying.
Opening of international borders
Meanwhile, the National Recovery Council has also discussed the possibilities of reopening international borders to tourists and business travellers."The reopening of the country’s borders was also discussed. This will be deliberated by the ministers involved within this week.
"They will be looking into whether to allow fully vaccinated Malaysians to travel abroad. At the same time, it will also be discussed whether to allow tourists and business travellers into our country.
"I believe that would bring a big effect to the country. So, this matter will be brought up to the Prime Minister, and an announcement on it could be made soon," Muhyiddin said.
