In about a week, the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) will come to an end.

However, there's no reason to celebrate as we are still reporting double digit COVID-19 cases almost on a daily basis.

And the government is already looking at extending the RMCO.

Based on recommendations

According to a report by Malay Mail, the Health Ministry has made a recommendation to the National Security Council (MKN) to extend the RMCO once it ends on 31 August.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba told the news portal that the recommendation was made based on the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s recent statement regarding the COVID-19 pandemic that could last up to least two years.

Adham added that two years is a long way to go, and extending the RMCO is to ensure that Malaysians embrace the new norms.

“For the RMCO which will end on August 31, the MOH has made a recommendation to the MKN and also to the prime minister for it to continue until the situation is under control.

"So it is up to the Prime Minister to announce it in the near future," he was quoted as saying.

As of 23 August, Malaysia has 183 active COVID-19 cases, bringing the total of cases to 9,267.

Maybe extending the RMCO is not a bad thing. What do you guys think?
