The Government Is Set To Release New Car Tinting Rules Soon

In our mostly hot Malaysian weather, remaining cool, especially on a long drive, can be quite challenging. Although we can blast the air conditioner up to its maximum limit, some of us would still be hot.

Perhaps that is why more and more car owners are considering tinting their car windows to block out as much sun as possible. However, not many of us don’t know the percentage of car tint that is allowed by the law.

Fret not! Rushing to get your car tinted or reading up on the Malaysian car tint laws may just not be necessary because the government will be announcing new regulations on vehicle window tints by early next month.

According to a report by Astro Awani, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said new regulations are required because there were leakages and weaknesses in the existing policies, leading to the Pakatan Harapan government freezing the approval for new applications for the use of car window tints.

Kamarudin explained that the revised regulations, which is currently at its final stage, would not only emphasis on transparency in the application process, it would also increase the government’s revenue.

Currently the regulations under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules, 1991 (amended 5 February 2016) state that permissible VLT levels are 70 per cent for the front windscreen, 50 per cent for front side windows and 30 per cent for rear side windows and rear screen.

If you guys installed tints darker than our soul, it's time to peel them off and reinstall new ones.
