The government is increasing the monthly electricity bill rebate for the poor and hardcore poor beginning 1 January.

According to a report by The Star, the rebate has been raised from RM20 a month to RM40 per household.

A total of RM80mil has been allocated for this rebate next year in the government's brand new 'RM40 Electricity Bill Rebate Programme'.

With this upgraded scheme, 185,000 poor and hardcore poor households registered under the e-Kasih system will benefit from it.

Basically, if you fall under this category and your monthly electricity usage amounts to less than RM40, your bill is practically free!

However, if your monthly bill exceeds RM40, just pay the balance after deducting the rebate.

This rebate under the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change applies to eligible households under the targeted aid programme.

Cheaper electricity bill ftw.
Households can check if you're eligible for the e-Kasih rebate on the ministry's official portal or contact the My Government Call Centre (MyGCC) at 03-8000 8000.

Besides that, you can also check with the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) careline 1-300-88-5454 or at any Kedai Tenaga near you.

Those living in Sabah may contact the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) helpline 088-515 000/15454, while in Sarawak, you can call the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) customer careline 1-300-88-3111.

But if you have yet to register an account with TNB, SESB or SEB, you can apply for a third party account by filling the application form at the nearest Kedai Tenaga TNB, SESB office or SEB office.

Don't worry, you still have some time to do so. Make use of your remaining annual leaves and do it now!
