Govt Wants To Review The 1.5 Million Bangladeshi Workers In Malaysia

Back in 2016, Malaysia and Bangladesh had signed a memorandom of understanding (MoU) to allow 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers to find jobs here in stages.

That's a lot of foreign labour!

Hence the government has called to review the agreement to stop relying too much on foreign workers, as reported by the New Straits Times.

Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran said the government wants to reduce our dependency on foreign labour and only allow them out of necessity.

After all, priority should be given first and foremost to Malaysians, in terms of jobs and employment.

Some of these foreign workers have better qualifications that you can imagine.

Any agreement made with other countries will also be reviewed soon.

However, Bangladeshi workers who are already working in Malaysia legally will not be forced to just pack up and leave.

Besides that, the ministry will also try to help fill up job vacancies which were once taken up by foreign workers by training locals as well as implementing other measures.

"Our priority should always be on our workers, certain industries are filled by foreign workers," Kulasegaran said.
