We can feel your excitement, especially in light of the government’s recent hints that interstate travel ban will soon be lifted.

However, ‘balik kampung’ this time around will be slightly different from the previous ones.

Be responsible, guys!

The government has urged Malaysians with 'balik kampung' plans to undergo COVID-10 self tests before travelling home to meet their family.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin reiterated that the government will lift the interstate travel ban once 90 per cent of the adult population in Malaysia are fully vaccinated.

Currently, the figure stands at 88.4 per cent.

“(Only) 1.6 per cent before interstate borders open. While the Health Ministry has transitioned to symptomatic testing, we encourage people who are in high contact and mobility settings to test regularly.

“If you want to balik kampung to see elderly parents, do a RTK saliva test. Keep them safe,” Khairy said in a tweet on Wednesday (6 October).

Khairy added that as the government prepares for the transitioning of the pandemic to an endemic, it is now up to the rakyat to play their part.

“As we transition towards endemicity, we cannot police things anymore, such as setting up roadblocks to see if you have been fully vaccinated or tested.

“Much will now depend on personal responsibility and behaviour. I believe we can rise to the challenge in #ReopeningSafely,” he said in another tweet.

Now that interstate travels are imminent, let's not waste this opportunity, OK?

Remember to continue to do you part and keep your loved ones safe.
