Grab Food Driver Calls Customer ‘Stupid’, Throws Food Because The Customer Didn’t Answer Her Call

Alicia Corbett 16/05/2024 | 06:30 MYT
Since the pandemic, many of us have become used to ordering our meals with the help of GrabFood riders. These hardworking people drive through the rain and hot sun to get our orders to us on time. However, X user @shmajn shared her unpleasant delivery experience, in which a rider apparently shouted at her and threw her food on a table. With the tweet now at 1.6M views as of the time of writing, X users are divided over who was at fault.

In a tweet titled ‘Rude Grab Food Driver,’ Shima said she ordered her food through the Grab app and clearly stated in the notes that she asked the deliverer to go up directly to Level 17. She said that at 4:02 pm, the driver kept texting her through the Grab app to come down because it was raining and there was no parking. She also received six calls from the driver in just three minutes.

Shima said that as soon as she picked up the call, the driver screamed at her, “Why didn’t you pick up my call?” Shima said she was shocked but calmly said that she had stated her instructions to head up in the notes, but the driver kept screaming at her. “Why don’t you know how to answer my call? It’s raining today, so there’s no parking. Are you stupid?”

Shima told her that it was not her problem if she answered the call (a debatable point) or not, as she had already written in the notes instructing her to come up. However, the woman shouted, “Do you think I’m your slave?”. The driver kept scolding her and ended the call.

Suddenly, the driver sent her messages on Grab, threatening to get her banned from the app. She also called Shima all sorts of names such as ‘stupid’, ‘slave’, ‘poor’, ‘illiterate’ and ‘black heart’ (referring to someone evil). Shima told her to “bring it on” in the chat, saying that this all served as evidence.

The driver apparently even threatened to report Shima to the police. Meanwhile, Shima also shared an image of her drink, which was lying sideways on a table. Shima explained that when she went down to the lobby, the guard said the driver had thrown the food on the table until the drink spilt inside the plastic bag.

The guard also said he asked her to park in front of the lobby and go upstairs to send the food, but she refused. The driver also refused to get out of the car and was angry when the guard told her to place the food on the table.

When Shima reported this incident to Grab Malaysia, she only got a refund for the spilt drink, and no further action seemed to have been taken. She also explained that she didn’t mind if the driver had left the food in the lobby, but the issue was that the driver had started getting angry within four minutes of waiting.

Shima also shared that the driver had also apparently gone viral back in 2018 for her bad attitude.

Netizens weigh in

When questioned about why she didn’t go down and why she didn’t answer the calls, her answer was, “Most of the time, I’m in meetings or discussions, so usually the staff at the counter will take the food for me. I only have a short break for food in between meetings.”
