If you have stacks of summons laying around at home -- like some people we know -- for god knows what reasons, now's the perfect time for you to clear them.

Everybody gets a discount

The ever-so-generous Road Transport Department (JPJ) is offering a whopping 70 per cent discount on all compoundable summonses from today till 16 September, Bernama reported.

JPJ said in a statement quoted by the news agency that the discount was given in conjunction with the 64th National Day celebration themed "Malaysia Prihatin" this year.

The aim of the discount is to reduce the burden of the people who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The reduction is for all summonses issued under the Road Transport Act 1987, Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987 as well as other rules and orders under it, including cases that are still blacklisted," the statement read.

According to JPJ, the discount on the summonses is based on the current compound rates fixed in their mySIKAP system.

Not all summons are eligible for the discount.
However, not all summonses are eligible for the discount though.

Cases that are still under mention in the courts, including those with the status of arrest warrants or trial, are not applicable, JPJ said.

Furthermore, for blacklisted cases, the offenders are required to present themselves at the JPJ branch or state office for documentation process before payment can be made.

So, if you're ready to settle your summons, you can do so by visiting any JPJ branch or state office, Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) outlets, kiosks and JPJ's mySIKAP portal.

Time to pay up, you guys.
