Using violence to resolve an issue is never the answer, especially not when it is an elderly woman. A video clip which has since gone viral shocked netizens when a young man was seen repeatedly slapping and hitting an old woman on the back of her head.

In the video dated 28 January 2024, he was seen aggressively attacking her from the back, grabbing her stick from her and threatening her with it. He was also seen mouthing words angrily at her in the video.

A Reddit user’s post was widely circulated after uploading a CCTV footage of their ‘frail grandmother at home getting hit and injured by neighbours operating (a) glamping site’. Along with the shocking video, the user explained that her grandmother who is almost 80 years old was beaten for confronting them about open burning behind their home.

She also mentioned that their neighbour was the operator of The Baruh Glamping in Tanjung Kling, Melaka. The user also mentioned that they were the ‘worst and most inconsiderate neighbours to have’ as they regularly practised open burning once every few days for years, and the smoke blew into their home, which impacted her grandmother’s physical health.

The user explained that on the day of the physical assault, the operators were starting to conduct open-burning activities when her grandmother went to confront them, and they got into a heated argument. The young man suddenly charged towards her and delivered repeated blows at her, even causing her to fall. She said that she is a ‘frail elder’ and that ‘any hit from a young adult could be potentially fatal to her.’

According to her, even though they first tried to resolve the issue by communicating civilly with the operators, it was to no avail. They even reported the issue to Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah, Ministry of Environment and Water, and even to the police but no further action was taken besides issuing a warning letter.

She also shared about the incident in a Facebook post, adding, “In fact, all these dirty actions (open burning) were done in (a) vindictive manner due to the previous reports we made.”

The user explained that they have lodged a police report on the incident and brought their grandmother to the hospital for a check-up and X-ray. They also hoped that the ‘authority’ does their job and that ‘the operators get the justice they deserved.’

Baruh Glamping’s Side of the Story

According to another Reddit user, The Baruh Glamping (TBG) has limited comments on Facebook and Instagram as well as having removed bad reviews on Google Reviews.

They also uploaded a Facebook post on their version of the matter. In the post, TBG said that the video posted by their neighbour was cropped to make the grandmother look like the victim. According to them, the grandmother hit another 70-year-old lady who worked at their glamping site.

They also pointed out the fact that the grandmother was holding a stick. However, in the video they posted, the grandmother was only seen shouting angrily in their direction while waving a stick, and she was not seen assaulting anyone.

They claimed that the young man grabbed her stick to stop the grandmother from hitting the 70-year-old again. TBG said that this matter had been going on for years.

They also said that they had been accused of dirtying the area, but they had actually cleared the area of wild animals and snakes, and the rubbish was always picked up by the authorities. TBG elaborated that despite this, they were cursed at every day. TBG also said that they had reported the matter to the police.

However, a Reddit user pointed out that TBG’s explanation appeared to be inconsistent as they referred to the 70-year-old woman as their mother, grandmother, and staff in different comments (which have since been deleted.
