Look up in the sky...

January 2018 will be a pretty special month -- not because it has tonnes of long weekends -- because you will be treated to two supermoon appearances!

The supermoon phenomenon, also called a perigree, happens when the full moon is at its closest distance to our lovely little planet.

When a supermoon occurs, experts say that the moon can appear up to 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent larger than your normal full moon.

It's the perfect time for you to lay down on the grass outside and stare up at the moon.

Bigger, brighter, more awesome.
Why is this a big deal, you ask? Well, according to experts, a supermoon only happens on average once every 14 months.

So, to get two supermoon appearances in a space of 30 days is like a buy one, free one promo at Superdry - doesn't happen often, but it does!

The first supermoon appearance will reportedly happen on 1 January and the second one will be on 31 January, according to a statement by NASA.

To top it all off, the supermoon happening at the end of January will be an "extra special" one, said NASA.

Red, like your blood!
The supermoon will reportedly also coincide with a lunar eclipse and a blue moon (a phenomenon where there are two full moons in a month): so, if you catch it at the right moment, the moon will appear a ruddy red-brown in colour.

So, remember to circle the date on your calendar if you want to be dazzled!
