You can celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri but put off the festivities.

According to The Star Online, this was the statement made by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri pertaining to the celebrations.

“After fasting for one month, we are obligated to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on the first day of Syawal. We must eat and we must perform the Hari Raya prayers in the way we are advised to under the movement control order (MCO)."

“However, the way we mark the occasion may not be the same as festive celebrations are more about tradition," he said.

Social distancing still a must

He added that perhaps visiting each other during Aidilfitri should be be limited and people should practice social distancing.

Aidilfitri is going to be different this year.
“But we can postpone the festive celebrations that we normally have with open houses and so on. As to whether we can postpone the celebrations to another time due to the MCO, we can discuss this possibility in the National Fatwa Council after getting the views of the clerics, ” he said in an interview.

Earlier, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had suggested that the Aidilfitri holidays in Malaysia could be postponed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The move is similar to what was previously announced in Indonesia.

Authorities there have postponed the Aidilfitri holidays to December to stop the mass balik kampung movement which traditionally happens around the time.
