After being told to strictly follow the set standard operating procedures (SOPs), there were some irresponsible Malaysians who took the opportunity to break the law.

And now, we're going to pay the price.

Almost 50 new cases

The Health Ministry has revealed that they have detected a total of 36 new COVID-19 clusters on Thursday (29 July), Malay Mail reported.

That brings the total number of active clusters to 1,064 around the country.

Out of the 36 new clusters, three originated from the Hari Raya Haji celebrations, which took place on 20 July.

While the number of clusters may seem little, the Hari Raya Haji clusters contributed 48 new COVID-19 cases between them.

According to the Health Ministry, the three Hari Raya Haji clusters are:

Kampung Mentera cluster The cluster was caused by a 36-year-old man from Kampung Mentera in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

He tested positive on 23 July and since then, the authorities have screened 32 people, with 20 turning up positive.

Dah Kampung Pokka cluster The cluster was detected in Padang Terap in Kedah.

The index case is a 45-year-old man, who was also confirmed to be COVID-19 positive on 23 July. A total of 104 people have been screened under this cluster, and six people came back positive.

Jalan Denai Enam cluster This cluster was discovered in Johor Baru.

A 35-year-old woman was identified as patient zero and since then, 90 people have been screened. A total of 22 tested positive.

Remaining clusters

On top of the three Hari Raya Haji clusters, the Health Ministry detected 18 new clusters from workplaces, seven from community infections, three involving high risk groups and one in a detention center.

The largest cluster discovered on Thursday (29 July) was the Tapak Bina Ipoh Permai cluster involving workers in a construction site in Taman Ipoh Permai in Ipoh, Perak, where 111 workers were found to be positive from 193 people screened.
